The title says all. More than anything my ego's taking a hit - I really didn't see this happening. But, so long as it happens as it seems like it will, there's really nothing to be all that mad about. A single plug standard is what we really need, and while I'm not 100% confident that this will lead us there, at least with adapters we're functionally there.

    The oily vapours you breathe when you cook are probably much worse for you than the CO2. That means you have to keep your extractor fan active while cooking, in any case. That also means you have to keep your window slightly open or practice a little hole on your window glass. Some have an automatic "fan" which passively rotates when there is a depression inside, so that the window is basically closed when you are not using the extractor fan. All those reasons make the advantages of electric stoves irrelevant, as far as quality of air is concerned.

    During the summer months here in Southern California, my 3 ton A/C will drive my electric bill from $200 a month to $450 a month. During the winter my gas bill will rise to $80 from $20 a month. That's a $60 difference for gas and $250 for electric. Why would I want to run a compressor to drive heat into the house instead of gas?

    That's so weird. I never looked at analog clocks as a progression bar. To me it always has looked like the worst way to read time. Always had to convert the little hands to numbers in my head so I could understand what time it is and never understood people looking at their wrist and knowing instantly what time it is. And I'm fast at it, have used lots of analog watchs. But still, looking at a digital clock always feels so relaxing to my brain. It's like the analogs are uncertain, like they changing as I read them, like they're a aproximation of what time it is and, until I have looked at an actual digital clock to confirm my findings, they are an educated guess.

    Won't domestic solar reduce the need to upgrade grid connections and substations by having the consumption and generation close by? Also, is there no standing charge in the US? We can pay anything between €0.50 and €1.20 per day.

  • @kimbraun0823
    @kimbraun0823 15 часов назад

    Speaking of time passing, I know this video is a couple of years old and you may not see this, but I think I know the problem. A digital clock is not a decimal clock. You see a number that means something different because it is time. The number that comes after 3:59 is 4:00 not 3:60. The number after. 12:59 is 1:00 not 12: 60. To me sometimes 3:50 should be half past 3, not 10 til 4, because there are supposed to be 100 numbers between 3:00 and 4:00.

    I have a LG Induction Range with a 4200 watt burner. I can boil an uncovered pot of water in less than 7 minutes. The plug in ones are limited to 1500 watts. Induction cooktop is also much easier to clean becuse the surface never gets hotter than the pan. No burnt on crap. Percision is better, more responsive than gas and finally the highs are higher and the lows are lower. Induction for life!

    Not to be that guy but this is quite literally what capitalism is a solution to... Sure there is a case that individuals are being misled as to the investment return projections, but fundamentally this is a question of "how do we allocate our limited resources to our unlimited wants." Net metering is ham-fisted, but this ought to be treated the same as a power generation plant, just at a smaller scale. The power grid companies make a margin on the cost to supply and the cost to consume electricity, which they then use to maintain a grid with enough cavity to ensure continued use. It's inherently monopolistic so government regulation is required, yes. Your ethical concerns might just simplify down to that it's turning average joes into capitalists that are profiting off of their neighbours consumption of their generated power. Unfortunately, as you are struggling with in this video, there is no non-exploitative system that is also stable to determine the most efficient allocation of limited resources to our unlimited wants. Consider the other benefits here, in co-locating the power generation and power consumption, there is going to be a reduce wear and tear load on the local grid infrastructure. Other larger 'more efficient' use of solar grids could happen, but they might also struggle to provide the required capital (and also entrepreneurship) and so enabling everyday people to invest their own capital is only going to accelerate green-energy transition. tl:dr; it's capitalism baby

    You asked about train car turn around. It depends. Many times, the cars are quickly turned around and sent right back out the next day. But at their home base, they are pulled out for cleaning and maintenance. A lot of staff (car attendants, dining car staff, lounge staff) remain on the train the full route. Engineers and conductors are switched out every 8 hours or so.

  • @user-cu8tw9wp8q
    @user-cu8tw9wp8q День назад

    I agree that traveling in a sleeper is more economical with 2 because of the fare structure. People mistakenly compare it to air and it needs to be compared to traveling by car. Why? If you consider taking the train to enjoy the time to relax and decompress, enjoy the views, and meal service, then compare that to a car traveling the same route, which will cost more? You have wear and tear on your car, you have cost of fuel and maybe tolls. Hotel fees including parking fees in the hotel. Food costs along your car ride. Not to mention the stress of driving. I'll take the train when I can.

When we switched over to all digital pH displays for our waste treatment system, I realized I didn't actually read the old meters, but I knew where all the needles should be and a super quick scan could verify this. Your points about net metering aren't wrong... but they mostly boil down to utilities pushing unsustainable policies. Eventually utilities will be forced into agreements that *are* sustainable and fair (probably looks like you only receiving time-of-use wholesale power rate credit when you export). LiFePo4 batteries are getting cheaper at breakneck pace, and will eventually address this when all houses have their own local power storage/generation. Doing that will allow homes to have lower amperage service (the batteries and inverter/charger gear facilitate time shifting your local demand even when solar output is low), which makes the situation less of a crunch for the grid overall. The only real point that won't be addressed naturally by free market forces / innovation is the inequity issue you brought up. It's true that it will always carry a large up-front cost to get a system as long as we keep private ownership of the gear, but provided the utility pricing is actually operated in a *sustainable and fair* way (see above), then it's not a big enough deal to hit the breaks on a great source of renewable energy. Poor people also can't afford the up-front costs of buying things in bulk at Costco etc (often called "poor person traps"), but that doesn't mean we should be trying to stop Costco from existing.

    The only reason I learned about the “run hot water from your tap before starting your dishwasher” thing was because I am paranoid and read almost the entire instruction manual that came with my dishwasher and they actually put that in there as part of the directions! I have no clue if that’s a new thing they’ve started adding recently, but I inherited mine with my condo (no recirculation pump ☹️) and the previous owner was kind enough to leave all the manuals behind, so it’s at least 2 years old. But if not from reading that, I never would have known without your videos!

    If only they used the turbidity sensor in the prewash to determine how much soap to use and automatically dispense only what it needs. You'd just have to refill a reservoir with a liquid or powder detergent, depending on how the dispenser is designed. It would probably have to be a thin liquid to prevent clogging the dispenser, it could even be two liquids to allow for both cleaner types. Or it could even let you set the wash strength for each cycle. I don't know why no one has designed any appliances that use some form of detergent or other add in with functions like that.

    I think there is a case where its worth it to thoroughly rinse dishes before washing them: when you don't have a macerator in your machine. In that case you can avoid cleaning the filter as often by rinsing your dishes more thoroughly. It's nice to know that some dishwashers will reduce the water use in that case.

Try to get all the crumbs and grease out of the nooks and crannies (pain I ht neck). This takes a good 15 to 20 minutes. (but I don't always do step 1). Wouldn't the electrodes passing current through water be "electrolysis " and not "boiling " the water. No humidity will be produced, as a bonus though, the room will be filled with pure oxygen and about twice the pure hydrogen because that's what you get when you pass electric thru water, especially if you pass DC current thru salted water you can capture the oxygen hydrogen gasses but i forget if the oxygen is on the positive side or the negative side.
